25 Years of Giving Video Contest winners announced

Total of $275,000 to be awarded to nonprofits across Southeast
 
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 1, 2018 – The First Horizon Foundation, which operates as First Tennessee Foundation and Capital Bank Foundation, is proud to announce the nonprofit winners of its 25 Years of Giving Video Contest, commemorating its 25 years of strengthening communities.
A total of $275,000 will be awarded to 35 organizations across Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia – who will receive grant awards ranging from $2,500 to $25,000 for their organization’s compelling stories.
 
“For the past 25 years, our Foundation has worked to strengthen and uplift our communities by partnering with nonprofits,” said Charles Burkett, chairman of the First Horizon Foundation, “We’re blown away by all the impactful stories we received in our 25 Years of Giving Video Contest. We had planned for 25 awards, however the stories were so compelling we decided to recognize 10 additional organizations with $2,500 Honorable Mention awards.”
 
On June 25, the First Horizon Foundation announced the 25 Years of Giving Video Contest to celebrate its 25th anniversary of supporting the nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves. To celebrate this milestone, and introduce the Foundation as the Capital Bank Foundation in the Mid-Atlantic communities served by First Tennessee Bank, nonprofit organizations were asked to submit a 60-second video sharing how they have partnered or how they could partner with the Foundation to support their communities.
 
More than 500 submissions were received and with the help of public voting, finalists were determined and a panel of judges selected the winners based on the following criteria:
·      Storytelling and messaging
·      Creativity and originality
·      Motivation and inspiration
·      Overall community impact
 
The Middle Tennessee winners by level are:
 
$10,000:
 
·      The ARC Williamson County of Franklin, TN
 
“On behalf of The ARC of Williamson County, we are thrilled to learn of our selection as a winner in the First Tennessee Bank 25 Years of Giving Contest.  This funding for our PhotoVoice Program will allow the voices of many individuals in our community who have physical or intellectual challenges that make verbal communication difficult, the use of the power of photography as a catalyst for self-expression,” said Sharon Bottorff, executive director of The ARC of Williamson County
 
$5,000:
 
·      High Hopes Development Center of Franklin, TN
 
“High Hopes is honored to be the recipient of $5,000 from First Tennessee Bank. These funds will directly impact children with special needs who need our services. Thank you for helping High Hopes provide hope to more families,” said Gail Powell, executive director of High Hopes Development Center.
 
$2,500 – Honorable mention:
 
·      Rock the Street, Wall Street of Nashville, TN
 
“First Tennessee has brought girls forward in the field of finance in Middle Tennessee for the past four years by supporting Rock The Street, Wall Street with not only their funding, but also by example as their employees have shared their time and financial expertise as volunteers in the local highs schools. Those girls now know what it is to own their financial futures,” said Maura Cunningham, founder and executive director of Rock the Street, Wall Street.
 
First Horizon Foundation, which operates in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia as Capital Bank Foundation and in Tennessee and Texas as First Tennessee Foundation, is the private charitable foundation of First Horizon National Corporation.
 
Today also marks the opening of the 2019 grant cycle. Eligible nonprofits are encouraged to submit their funding requests for consideration by Dec.1.
