African American local history in photos displayed at library

A 20-year retrospective of historian Thelma Battle’s Williamson County African American History in Photographs will be on display to the public until Friday, Feb. 26. The 130 images dating from the late 1800s to the present are from African American historian Thelma Battle’s collection of more than 3,000 images. The display is located in the Library’s Special Collections section on the second floor.

Since she was a child, Battle was interested in history. She loved listening to older people talk about the past, and she could often be seen sitting on a porch listening to a senior citizen’s memories.

“I started a collection on African American history and photographs a long time ago,” Battle said during an interview in the Williamson County Library’s Special Collections section. “I like talking to older people and being with older people.
