ANNUAL ILLUMINATION CEREMONY ON NOV. 30 COMMEMORATED BATTLE OF FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN, TN – On Thursday, Nov. 30, The Battle of Franklin Trust once again displayed luminaries at dusk to honor the casualties inflicted during the Battle of Franklin 153 years ago.

“It is difficult to comprehend the immense loss that unfolded on Nov. 30, 1864,” said Eric A. Jacobson, CEO of The Battle of Franklin Trust. “Seeing the luminaries glowing at dusk and hearing the names of some of those who were killed, wounded, or captured can make a profound impact and help better understand the Battle of Franklin.”

The ceremony to commemorate the battle’s anniversary began at 4 p.m. at Carter Hill Battlefield Park, west of Columbia Pike. Brief remarks were delivered, followed by the names of casualties read aloud directly following. Speakers included Eric A. Jacobson, Sam Grant, Greg Wade, Cullen Smith, Pam Lewis, Kelly Gilfillan, James R. Knight, David Van Dyke, Cassie Welsh, Cliff Coss, Adam Thomas and Brad Kinnison.

Visitors were invited to walk throughout the luminaries to experience this somber event. Carnton and Carter House were open to the public for free walk-through tours from 5-7 p.m.
