Blackberry Smoke to perform ‘rowdy-rock country’ on Music City Roots Wednesday

Music City Roots will shake up its weekly showcase with the generous outlaws known as Blackberry Smoke.

They will take the 1970s rowdy-rock style tinged with country and a bit of the blues, and put together a performance that should have the seats smeared with admiration for a sound that’s not country, but of the country.

The Atlanta five-man band might seem familiar if you caught their appearance on Conan or Leno, or were lucky to have pilfered a ticket to them opening for Jeff Beck and ZZ Top, bringing down the house on one of their many sold-out tour stops, or sneaking away to the fully-booked Outlaw Country Cruise. They’ve put in hours and in turn, put out some solid tunes.

The Williamson Herald was able to chat by phone with Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr about the forces inside and out that have a direct effect on the band’s sound.
