Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill

The Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr., offers activities for all ages, including a new Healthy Hands Cooking series, Young Rembrandts art classes for ages 6 to 13, Judo/Karate and Polynesian Dance. All classes are open to the public.

 

Healthy Hands Cooking

Learn how to cook for healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. This 10-week series of classes will explore topics like healthy ways to use your slow-cooker, sugar, pre and post workout foods, healthy snacks and anti-inflammatory  foods.  Meets on Tuesdays, March 6-May 22  (skip 3/27 and 4/3) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. March classes: March 6-Slow cooker class to boost the immune system; March 13-All about Sugar; March 20-Feed your Child Athlete. Judo/Karate

This combination class of Judo and Karate gives students (8 years and older) a well-rounded program of physical fitness and self-confidence. Students can progress through black belt and have the opportunity to compete in tournaments.  Meets Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill. Young Rembrandts

Young Rembrandts presents a bountiful selection of drawings that introduce students to a fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. Say farewell to summer in our detailed still life drawing of a beach. Explore color usage and composition in our chameleon and fire truck drawings. In keeping with the season, drawing stylized fall leaves will challenge our technique and color scheme. Students will learn cultural themes as they draw and color Kawaii inspired art. All this and more awaits your child in a Young Rembrandts classroom! Sign up today! Meets Mondays, March 12-26, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill. Polynesian Dance

Learn to dance like the natives of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti. Instructor Chris Hendrickson uses these dance representations as a form of both exercise and education.  Three  levels meet on Wednesdays at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.: Beginners, 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.; Intermediates, 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Advanced, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  This course is $25 per month, and registration is available on line at www.wcparksandrec.com. All ages are welcome.
