Floral Arranging Classes

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department announces a variety of new art classes at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive. For information about activities at the Longview Recreation Center, call (615)302-0971, ext. 10 or view the Spring Hill monthly newsletter at www.wcparksandrec.com. No membership is required. The Longview Recreation Center is a public facility, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

FLORAL ARRANGING
The Longview Recreation Center is having a series of Floral Arranging classes in May. You’ve seen the fun, beautiful and trendy flower arrangements in magazines and delivered from your local florist, but have you ever wanted to be able to create a flower arrangement of your own? Learn how to create beautiful everyday arrangements, trendy designs and even some fun ones you can create with your kids! Classes are open to teens and adults. The fee for each class is $15, and the instructor is Lauren Nichols.

May Baskets will be held Friday, May 1 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Supply fee: $13.
Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday, May 5th from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Supply fee: $28. Mother’s Day Arrangement on Saturday, May 9th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Supply fee: $28. STOCKING SCULPTURE
Let your creativity blossom with free-form sculpture! Using found objects of wire hangers, pantyhose and wooden blocks, students ages 12 and up will sculpt their masterpiece and transform them with acrylic paint into solid appearing artful forms Stocking Sculpture will meet on Mondays, May 4th and 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The 2-week class is $35, and the instructor is Andrea Howard. STARBURST BOOK
Learn how to make suminagashi paper and a starburst book! Suminagashi is a Japanese marbleizing technique of decorating paper with inks. Students age 5 and up use the decorative paper to create a small book that folds open into a starburst. Students can take home the extra marbleized paper to use for other craft projects. Non-toxic ink is used for this project. Starburst Book will meet on Tuesday, May 12th and 19th from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The 2-week course is $6 and the Supply Fee is$4.
