Franklin Synergy Bank

Traditional community banking is usually not considered an outrageously creative venture. Nor would most people want the task of building a bank from the ground up, particularly these days when banking in general has such a poor reputation. Yet that is exactly what the community bankers of Franklin Synergy Bank elected to do in November of 2007. They decided to build a Williamson County bank specifically focused on meeting the banking needs of the local community, not the banking needs of the state, of the southeast or of the entire US. Take just a moment and consider what that means for you, your life and your business.

In some quarters, banking is viewed strictly as a commodity business. And in some banks, that’s actually what banking is, a commodity in which your business is no better or more desirable than anyone else’s business. If you leave a bank that thinks like a commodity broker, there will be someone along right behind you to replace you. It’s all about numbers and financial goals and getting business but it’s rarely about keeping business by keeping your customers happy.

The bankers at Franklin Synergy Bank recognize that an opportunity exists in the community for a bank that doesn’t think like a commodity broker. President Richard Herrington along with a team of local bankers had a desire to build a true community bank. Banking leaders joining him on that mission are Jody Bowman, Jere Pewitt, Lisa Musgrove, Ashley Hill, Aimee Punessen, Kevin Herrington and Sally Bowers. Herrington says the management team leads with a “maniacal obsession with relationship-building” a phrase that perfectly describes the approach Franklin Synergy Bank employs with its customers.

The Board of Directors at Franklin Synergy has a uniquely local business perspective because the directors are all successful local business people themselves, rather than non-local directors looking to turn a quick buck in a bank merger. Some of Franklin Synergy’s directors are fifth generation Williamson County natives, and all of them have built businesses in the community that among them employ hundreds of local citizens. Directors Hank Brockman, Bill Harlin (now a Director Emeritus) Dr. David Kemp, Saul Komisar, Scott McWilliams, Paul Pratt, Jr. and Richard Herrington have a deep appreciation for quality of life in Williamson County. The Franklin Synergy Bank investors who actually own the bank are the directors, the employees and primarily local citizens who wanted to be part of building a local bank. They are your neighbors, your friends, your relatives.

You might ask why that matters. After all, isn’t your money just as safe and secure in a bank even if the banking team and directors are looking primarily to make money through a bank merger? Well, yes. But is your financial life really in order without a banker devoted to care-taking all aspects of your financial life, looking out for you, your family, your parents, and your business?
