______________
Local World War II veteran and beloved long-time football coach Gentry was an early advocate for the preservation and rehabilitation of the Franklin Theatre. Mr. Gentry hosted a screening of “An American Adventure” at a Community Night on June 6 as part of a week-long celebration of the historic Main Street theatre’s grand reopening. The 300-seat venue was packed, and it stands as one of the most memorable moments in the theater’s six months since its re-opening.
______________
“Jimmy Gentry’s moving story serves to enrich and inspire not only those in our local community, but every American,” said Program Director Sara Preston. “We could not think of a better way to honor those who have served our country this Veteran’s Day.”

Coach Gentry will do a presentation immediately following the film. He says, “I am now busy doing paintings to honor all foot soldiers.” They will be on sale at the theater as well as his book.

The documentary–directed by Franklin filmmaker Ken Carpenter–chronicles Gentry’s faith-driven life from his Depression-era childhood in Franklin through his military service, including the liberation of an infamous Nazi concentration camp.
