Heart of Spring Hill’s Country Ham Festival

Heart of Spring Hill’s Country Ham Festival

The John Maher Builders Spring Hill Country Ham Festival brings neighbors and friends – both old and new – together.  The community event is the realization of a vision to create a signature event that the City of Spring Hill could be proud of.

“We wanted to offer the community a chance to enjoy a family-oriented day while also giving to a good cause,” said event coordinator Chris DeBerry.  “The festival is a celebration of everything we love about Spring Hill.”

The Country Ham Festival takes place on the first Saturday of October; a day that has officially been declared “Country Ham Day” by the State of Tennessee.  The early fall day is Spring Hill’s chance to shine as thousands of visitors come from miles around to enjoy the festivities.  Dozens of volunteers donate hours of time to make sure the festival offers everything attendees have come to expect.  The festival has also become an important fundraiser for the Tennessee Children’s Home in Spring Hill.

“This festival is what Spring Hill is all about,” said Eliot Mitchell, Vice Mayor of Spring Hill and Ward 2 Alderman. “It is family fun and family entertainment, put together and run by community volunteers.  From the local teenagers parking the cars, to the firemen checking your blood pressure, it is Spring Hill showing its hospitality.”

One of the most important aspects of the festival is the opportunity it offers local businesses to interact with the community.  Businesses can sponsor a booth in the Kids Zone by offering a game or activity for kids to enjoy.

“The Festival is a unique and valuable opportunity for local businesses to showcase their products and services to tens of thousands of attendees in a fun and family-friendly setting that benefits The Tennessee Children’s Home, “ said Chairperson of the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce Stacy S. Neisler.  “It is a great way to support your local community while also promoting your business.”

Other organizations such as churches or civic clubs also take part in the festival, seizing the chance to educate the community about all that they do.

“Community events are just simply good for the community,” said Ann Bassett, Pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Spring Hill (a congregation that has participated in the festival for several years).  “Community events bring people together.  We at Peace Lutheran Church enjoy being a part of creating community within Spring Hill.  The Country Ham Festival is a marvelous way to serve our community, make new friends, and celebrate our blessings.”

“The Country Ham Festival has something for everyone; games for the kids, great food for the adults and excellent entertainment for the teens and young adults,” said Mitchell.  “Spending the day at the Festival is a great way to run into old friends as well as make some new ones.”
