LOCAL SHELTER TO FEATURE NO-FEE ADOPTION WEEKEND

Fees paid October 5-7 by PRAI Beauty’s “Free the Shelters” campaign

Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) is pleased to announce that it has been selected to participate in the “Free the Shelters” campaign, sponsored by PRAI Beauty founder Cathy Kangas. The shelter, located at 106 Claude Yates Dr. in Franklin, TN currently has 36 dogs available for adoption, including several that were part of a joint Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) rescue of 33 Hurricane Florence dogs on September 20, 2018. Also included in the event are 40 shelter kittens and 17 adult cats which are looking for forever homes.

Debbie Sims, Public Outreach Coordinator for WCAC said, “Events like Hurricane Florence raise awareness about homeless pets and that prompts more people to visit our shelter and adopt. Our hope is that the generosity of PRAI Beauty and HSUS Board Member Cathy Kangas will result in clearing the shelter this weekend.”   Shelter hours for the fee-waived weekend are: Friday, October 5 from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday, October 6 from 11 am to 3 pm and Sunday, October 7 from 12 p.m. to 4 pm. Adoptable pets can be viewed at www.adoptwcac.org.

FREE ADOPTION EVENTS FOR RESCUED HURRICANE FLORENCE ANIMALS IN HONOR OF “NATIONAL ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH”

PARTICIPATING SHELTERS IN CHATTANOOGA AND FRANKLIN, TN AND ROANOKE, VA

(New Canaan, CT, September 27th) Cathy Kangas, CEO and Founder of the cruelty-free skincare company PRAI Beauty, announced today that her Free the Shelters campaign will pay all adoption fees the weekend of October 5th at three shelters that rescued Hurricane Florence animals.

The event celebrates National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month in October and is part of “Free the Shelters” an international campaign that Kangas founded in May of 2017 that to date has found homes for close to 4,000 animals adopted from municipal and private shelters in 16 states and Canada.

The shelters were chosen because they worked closely with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to rescue animals in North and South Carolina shelters that were in the path of Hurricane Florence. Together the shelters have more than 900 animals including hundreds of dogs looking for a home.  Kangas is a member of the Board of Directors of HSUS and Founder of the Cathy Kangas Foundation for Animals.

The participating shelters that will waive all adoption fees beginning Friday, October 5th through Sunday, October 7th include Animals of Assisi,415 Campbell Avenue, SW in Roanoke, VA open 12 pm to 6pm each day; Williamson County Animal Shelter106 Claude Yates Drive  in Franklin, TN open Friday, October 5th from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday, 11 am to 3 pm and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 pm; and McKamey Animal Center 4500 North Access Road in Chattanooga, TN open Friday, October 5th from 11 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, 11 pm to 4pm.

Kangas said: “We are delighted to work with Animals of Assisi, Williamson County Animal Shelter and McKamey Animal Center to help find homes for the animals they rescued from Hurricane Florence.  We hope that waiving adoption fees as part of our “Free the Shelters” campaign will compel people to visit these shelters and adopt these wonderful animals that were displaced during the hurricane. We felt it was right to call attention to their plight during National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month in October.”
