Main Street Festival

endless entertainment

April 28, 2007

It’s back and bigger than ever. Franklin’s 24th Annual Main Street Festival will take place April 28-29, in downtown Franklin. This yearly event is presented by First Tennessee and is produced by the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County and the Downtown Franklin Association (DFA). Nancy Williams, Director of the DFA, expects the weekend event “to attract more than 100,000 visitors.”

This family event offers free non-stop entertainment all weekend long. The Festival will take place from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, with Dancin’ in the Street running from 7:30-10:30 p.m. The Festival continues on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. There will be musical entertainment on four stages, handmade work from more than 200 artisan and crafters, international flavors of more than 20 food vendors, a “kids street” of children’s activities, and the “big carnival” with traditional rides and games.

Handmade work will include pottery, jewelry, furniture, stained glass, leatherwork, photography and garden accents to name a few. Tasty food options will include Polish sausage, Greek gyros, Chinese cuisine, smoked turkey legs and of course your festival treats-ice cream, funnel cakes and roasted nuts. The children’s area will have a rock-climbing wall and other “extreme” games.

This year, the “big carnival” will be located at Margin Street and Second Avenue North-the site of the new City of Franklin Bicentennial Park. The carnival begins earlier than the festival on Thursday, April 26 and runs through Sunday, April 29. Carnival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.  Thursday and Sunday are family days with unlimited rides for $20 a person.

"We all look forward to the Franklin Main Street Festival as a chance to be outdoors again and enjoying our beautiful downtown," says Williams. So grab a friend or bring your family to downtown Franklin for a full day of fun, food, shopping and entertainment.
