Pickles and Ice Cream

Southern Hospitality with New York Style

By Lexi Vance

Brea DeTray and Rebecca Lee share an essential characteristic: the desire to help others.  With DeTray’s degree in social welfare and Lee’s legacy of family business owners, these two talented ladies opened the welcoming doors of Pickles & Ice Cream in Cool Springs in April of 2006.   Pickles was their first baby, and then they both birthed two of their own children and finally Little Star Kids Gear

Walk through the doors of Pickles and Ice Cream and you will find yourself greeted by a smile, a warm, friendly staff and stylish products hand picked by DeTray and Lee with their customers in mind.  They told us, “We are right in this stage of life with them, being pregnant, having babies in arms and kids running around and, we get what they need and what they can’t find around here.” Both owners strive to help women keep their personal style during pregnancy and to feel beautiful even when sometimes maybe they don’t feel beautiful. They offer New York style with Southern hospitality.

The store stands apart from anything else in the area with a wonderful selection for mommies-to-be. They carry hip lines like Michael Stars Maternity, Moody Mamas, Maternal America, Citizens and Japanese Weekend. They even have a house line “Pickles and Ice Cream” that sells basic jersey dresses and tops in an array of fun colors. The shop also carries hip diaper bags that look like very large purses in basic shapes in shades of blacks and browns, skincare products specially designed for pregnant women and so much more.

Recently, Pickles and Ice Cream in Cool Springs was featured in Couture Fashion Magazine’s mother’s day spread.  They truly are the go-to place for everything needed to look stylish while expecting.

About three months ago, DeTray and Lee birthed the newest edition to their business: Little Star Kids Gear.  After listening to their customers talk about a need for a children’s boutique this dynamic duo set out to fulfill another need in the community by opening Little Star Kids Gear.

In the short time Little Kids Star Gear has been opened, it has already made quite an impact on the community.  Named as one of the top silhouette artists by the Smithsonian, Tim Arnold spent a couple days created portraits of children in the boutique this past June.

Breaking the mold, Little Star Kids Gear adds a trendier baby store to the area.  West Coast and East Coast transplants will especially enjoy the fun, funky, trendy clothing and shoe lines, classic and unique toys, contemporary bedding and nursery furniture.   The store carries specialized items like Orbit and Bugaboo strollers, Tea, Joe Jeans, Kicky Pants, Fore! and GreenToys.  Their products are modern, unique, eco-friendly, and safe for kids.

Throughout the year, Pickles and Ice Cream and Little Star Kids Gear will have special events and sales.  Stop by today and enjoy designer pieces, summer and fall fashions, gifts and new arrivals galore.

Pickles and Ice Cream and Little Star Kids Gear are located at Thoroughbred Village shopping center at 539 Cool Springs Blvd. #110 in Franklin, TN.  They are open Monday through Saturday from 10am-6pm.  Find Pickles & Ice Cream’s on Facebook and visit Little Star’s Facebook too.
