Community Updates

Welcome

a message from city mayor tom miller

Welcome to the Franklin Is website.

This new venture will provide information to visitors as well as to our citizens.

Our mission at the City of Franklin is to foster community cooperation, innovation, and opportunity by providing quality services to Franklin residents and businesses in an efficient, effective, and economical manner.

We work together with many partners, including Williamson County, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the area Chambers of Commerce, to ensure that we’re providing the best possible services to our visitors and our citizens (both residential and corporate). We’ve added Franklin Is to that list of partners.

We’re proud of everything Franklin was, is, and will become. We’ve grown from a very small, agricultural community into a strong blend of residential, commercial and corporate citizens. The City of Franklin has a positive, national reputation reflecting safe, clean, attractive residential neighborhoods, an economically viable downtown, and the emerging, nationally-known Cool Springs area.

Many still think of us as a “small town.” In fact, even the majority of our more than 50,000 citizens say that “small town character” is the quality they like most about living here. Our downtown area is home to many events and festivals that help to give us that identity, along with many of the historical homes and museums we have.  But that’s only part of the story.

We’re the first community in Tennessee to be awarded the Preserve America Award by First Lady Laura Bush. We’re the location of one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War.  We’re the recipient of the Great American Main Street Award. We’re home to one of the largest shopping centers in the state. We’re the location of the corporate office of several international companies, including Nissan North America, American Healthways and Community Health Systems. We’re the recipient of dozens of Awards of Excellence for our Parks, municipal facilities, and planning projects and initiatives. We’re the only city in Tennessee listed as one of the top 10 Best Places to Retire and the top 100 Best Places to Live by Money Magazine.

We say it all the time – the best of both worlds can be found in Franklin – “small town charm and big city sophistication.”

As you peruse this website, I’m sure you’ll enjoy discovering just what “Franklin is.”

Sincerely,

Tom Miller
Mayor
City of Franklin
