THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS

Halloween Costume Party tops October fun

 

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement.  Recreation Specialists conduct monthly ongoing programs at three locations: the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. All programs are open to the public.

 

Halloween Party

Break out your best costume for our annual Halloween party on Thursday, October 19 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Enjoy a costume contest, games and acitivities. This event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner of sliders and party food.    For young adults and older. This is a PALS program and a caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Fitness Fun

During this weekly therapeutic program, participants will get fit while having fun. Use light hand weights and stability balls to build strength, then stretch your legs on a 30-minute walk. Participants must be independent and able to follow directions in a small group. Fitness Fun meets Wednesdays, October 4-25, 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.   Register in advance at www.wcparksandrec.com (#8912).

 

Potluck and Bingo

Therapeutic recreation participants are invited to enjoy free potluck and bingo from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. October 5 at the Franklin Recreation Complex (#10266), and October 11 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. (#10255). Participants (young adults and older) should bring a dish to share. Meat and drinks will be provided.  Pre-registration is required at www.wcparksandrec.com.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. 

 

Games Galore

Enjoy a game night with friends playing Jenga, cornhole and indoor bowling on Thursday, October 12 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.  Enjoy a baked potato and salad bar plus dessert.  Pre-registration is required by October 10 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#10263).  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. 

 

Friday Fun Day

Get out of the house and enjoy some Friday fun! On October 13, we will meet for a movie matinee at the Carmike Thoroughbred Theatre in Franklin at 11:00 a.m. Bring money for your ticket and snacks or drinks. The movie will be announced later. This program is for adults with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Recreation Night at Nolensville

One Tuesday per month, adolescents, (age 10 and older) are invited to a therapeutic recreation activity night at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd.  Our certified Rec Therapist will lead activities like crafts, exercise and socializing. Enrollment is limited, and the cost is $10 per child. Rec Night is Tuesday, October 17, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Register by October 16 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#10274).

 

Parents’ Night Out

Parents of special needs children can enjoy a night out October 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. while recreation specialists supervise activities for kids (ages 6-17). Parents’ Night Out is offered at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Dinner will be provided. Throwback Thursday-Movie Night

Throwback Thursday presents a classic Halloween feature on October 26 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.  Wear your witches costume or hat and watch “Hocus Pocus” with the group. A pizza dinner will be served. This program is for young adults and older with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. You must pre-register before October 23 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#10281).
