THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS

Splash Park Party Tops August Fun 

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement.  Recreation Specialists conduct monthly ongoing programs at three locations: the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. All programs are open to the public.

 

Potluck and Bingo

Therapeutic Recreation participants are invited to enjoy free potluck and bingo from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 9 at the Franklin Recreation Complex (#12066), or Wednesday, August 15 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. (#11979). Participants (teens and older) should bring a dish to share. Meat and drinks will be provided.  Pre-registration is required at www.wcparksandrec.com.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. 

 

Fitness Fun

Let’s get fit using light weights, resistance bands and stability balls. End the session with a walk. Fitness Fun meets at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Wednesdays, August 8-29 from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.  For teens and older.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register by August 6 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12054, $12).

 

Games Galore

Join us for badminton at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd., Thursday, August 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Includes a dinner of pizza and salad.  For teens and older. $7 per person. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12070).

 

Wednesday Friendsday

Have fun with friends at the ice cream sundae showdown in this Therapeutic Recreation class offered at Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd.  For ages 18 and older.  Activities will vary.  Meets Wednesday, August 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., $5. Throwback Thursday-Summer movie classic

Head for a night at the sandlot on Thursday, August 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the classic summer movie plus a dinner of chicken tenders and salad.  For teens and older. $7 per person. Recreation Night-Splash Park Party

Fun at the Splash Park is in store on Thursday, August 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Play in the mist and enjoy the many accessible water features. Sandwiches will be served for dinner.  This therapeutic recreation activity at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. is for young adults and older. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Please bring a towel and change of clothes. $8 per person. You must pre-register at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12079).

 

Friday Fun Day

On Friday, August 31 meet our therapeutic recreation staff at Sweet Cece’s in downtown Franklin at noon to purchase your favorite cool treat. Then, enjoy shopping on Main Street. Pick up time is 2:00 p.m. This program is for adults with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support.
