THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS

Fall Hayride Tops September Fun 

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement.  Recreation Specialists conduct monthly ongoing programs at three locations: the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. All programs are open to the public.

 

Fitness Fun

Let’s get fit using light weights, resistance bands and stability balls. End the session with a walk. Fitness Fun meets at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Wednesdays, September 5-26 from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.  For teens and older.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register by September 4 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12775, $12).

 

Parents’ Night Out

Parents of special needs children can enjoy a night out Friday, September 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. while recreation specialists supervise activities for kids (ages 6-17). Parents’ Night Out is offered at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Dinner will be provided. The cost for this program is $20 per child, and siblings may attend. Reservations are required at www.wcparksandrec.com by September 3 (#12314). Nolensville Activity Club (NAC)

Enjoy making crafts in this fun class. All materials and supplies are included in the fee. NAC will be Monday, September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. The cost for this program is $5 per young adult. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Reservations required by September 7 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12306).

 

Miscellaneous Mondays

Practice and learn etiquette in September’s Miscellaneous Monday series, September 10-24 ($15 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The class will have a tea at the end of the series.  For teens and older.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register by September 7 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12772).

 

Fit Fun Nite

Fit Fun Nite is designed for the adolescent age group and older, with special needs. One Tuesday a month, we will do a variety of physical activities to get our heart rates up and have some fun! A snack and drink will be provided but feel free to send food if your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies. Ages 10 and older (No age maximum.) Meets Tuesday, September 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enrollment is limited and online registration is required by September 10 (#12311). The cost of this program is $6.00 per child. Culinary Creations

This Therapeutic Recreation cooking class is offered at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. For ages 18 and older.  Learn to cook a variety of tasty and easy foods. Meets Wednesday, September 12 (appetizers) from 10:30 a.m. to noon, $7. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register by September 10 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#11343).

 

Potluck and Bingo

Therapeutic Recreation participants are invited to enjoy free potluck and bingo from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 6 at the Franklin Recreation Complex (#12058), or Wednesday, September 12 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. (#12696). Participants (teens and older) should bring a dish to share. Meat and drinks will be provided.  Pre-registration is required at www.wcparksandrec.com.  This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. 

 

Throwback Thursday-Neon & Denim 90s Party

Put on your stonewashed denim and neon for 90s night, Thursday, September 13 at the Franklin Recreation Complex. The best outfit wins a prize!  Play 90s trivia and enjoy a dinner of chicken tenders. For young adults and older. $7. Games Galore

Join us for a night of board games at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd., Thursday, September 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Includes a dinner of chicken tenders and salad.  For teens and older. $6. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Please register by September 18 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12729).

 

Friday Fun Day

On Friday, September 21, we will go the movies at Franklin’s Carmike Cinema.   This program is for adults with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Wednesday Friendsday

Fall Hayride & Dance

Let’s celebrate Fall with a hayride and dance, Thursday, September 27 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registration is open through September 25 at www.wcparksandrec.com (#12778, $10). A dinner of Bar-B-Q, slaw, beans, chips, drinks and dessert will be served.
