Trash Collecting and Christmas Tree Discarding

City offices will be closed on Monday, December 24th and Tuesday, December 25th. Offices will also be closed on January 1st.
Following is the schedule for trash collection during the holidays:

December 24th – 28th:
• Monday on Wednesday
• Tuesday and Wednesday on Thursday
• Thursday and Friday on Friday
December 31st – January 4th:
• Monday on Monday
• Tuesday on Wednesday
• Wednesday on Thursday
• Thursday and Friday on Friday

Large brushbulky items, and white goods will NOT be collected during the holiday weeks. Blue Bags and Brown Bags will be collected on same day as trash. The City asks residents to remember that much of the trash produced during the holidays is recyclable. Things such as wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, and food cans, along with plastics and paper, can be placed curbside in Blue Bags for collection. BOPAE and the Transfer Stationwill be closed when City offices are closed, but will be available when City offices are open.

The City is also offering two options for residents to discard live Christmas Trees.

Option one: Trees left at the curb will be collected by our Solid Waste Department beginning Monday, January 7th. These trees must be unbagged and will be picked up on your regularly-scheduled trash collection day.

Option two: Residents can drop the tree off at one of three designated City Park locations: Jim Warren Park (705 Boyd Mill Avenue); Liberty Park (2080 Turning Wheel Lane); and Fieldstone Park (1377 Hillsboro Road) from December 14th – February 1st.

Whichever option residents choose, the trees must be FREE of all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other materials. Trees will be sent through the City’s grinder and recycled as mulch for use in City landscaping.
