TWO KITTENS ARE BETTER THAN ONE!

Huge kitten influx prompts BOGO adoptions

Williamson County Animal Center in Franklin is overflowing with adoptable kittens. To promote adoption and relieve overcrowding, the shelter is offering $10 kitten adoptions with a free second kitten. Adopt a sweet kitten and get a built-in playmate included in the adoption! After all, studies have shown that kittens who grow up with a playmate are better socialized and behaved. Adoptions do require an approved application and include vaccinations, spay or neuter (or $50 returnable deposit) and microchip. Adult dogs and cats (one year or older) are $25 and puppies are $85.

Shelter Director, Ondrea Johnson reports that the number of kittens taken in during the first two weeks of June already exceeds the June 2017 pace. “Last year,” Johnson says, “the June intake of kittens was a staggering 345. We are on track to surpass that.” Johnson says the increase in strays and surrendered litters of kittens is putting pressure on the adoption areas. “This is an urgent situation. Currently, all of our kitten adoption kennels are being used, with 45 kittens on site,” she states. “We also have 200 kittens being cared for in foster homes,” she added. “Those fosters will be returning to the shelter as soon as they are old enough.”

The adoption process at the shelter is a simple one. Families are encouraged to come in together and visit with pets. An adoption counselor will conduct an interview, answer questions and find the perfect fit for each home. Along with the 45 kittens, the shelter has 30 adult cats and 32 adult dogs available for adoption.  Adoptable animals can be viewed at www. adoptwcac.org.
