Music writer John Lomax III has released an album, titled FOLK, of his father singing solo a cappella folk recordings, collected by his grandfather, which is a true Americana treasure.The Lomax family is responsible, beginning in 1908 through the mid-1960s, for collecting and recording 5,500 songs, laments, stories and general oral history which would have potentially been lost to the ages. Among favorites assembled include, “Home On The Range,” “Buffalo Skinners,” and “Git Along Little Dogies.” They also discovered and nurtured the careers of Muddy Waters and Leadbelly. Arguably, these songs went on to influence modern rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and the careers of seminal musicians such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Elvis.
