Weather or Not

When it comes to perfect weather, Mother Nature is a bit fickle. Farmers have to constantly adjust to the ever-changing weather conditions to grow their crops. However, the record breaking heat and drought so early this summer is pretty challenging. Extremely dry heat can stunt the growth of plants, sunburn the fruit or

vegetables or outright kill the plants. Tennessee has level onedrought conditions and precipitation levels have only been at 30 to 60% of what they would normally be the past 3 months. Many farmers are now using irrigation systems of some sort and that’s why there’s still a good selection of fresh food at the Franklin Farmers Market with new crops coming in each week. Still, the continued lack of rain and triple digit temperatures can affect the growing season of crops, so look for updates on the food that is available each week .
