Williamson County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce a number of community classes for youth and adults at the new Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. All classes are fee based and open to the public. Piano or Voice Lessons

Private weekly piano or voice lessons for adults with a focus on fun! For piano students, learn your way around the keyboard through a natural process, play songs with both hands and read music. Voice students will practice popular songs, breathing and vocal exercises as well as learn stage presence.  Thirty-minute private lessons are available on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Art Crawl with Miss Amy

Kids can enjoy a diverse art class during the monthly Franklin Art Scene, Friday, January 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For ages 5-11, $20. Supply fee payable to instructor: $5. Register at www.wcparksandrec.com, #10664.

 

Creative Writing for Seniors

Tell your story through creative writing. Write about your life, a special event, or create a fictional world. Learn the fundamental elements needed in order to write a compelling story. Guitar, Ukulele and Mandolin Lessons

Master guitarist John D’Amato offers private lessons on the guitar, ukulele and mandolin for all ages and skill levels. Lesson plans are created with the music and songs you want to play!  Lessons are available on Fridays, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the new Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. Thirty-minute private lessons are $30 each, payable monthly.  Contact instructor John D’Amato at 615-394-1252.

 

Retro Inspirations

Mindfulness is about improving our ability to enjoy the present. Practicing mindfulness can helps us gain focus and be more purposeful in where that focus takes our attention, power and action. Licensed therapist Melissa Herb will use classic rock and roll songs and writers like Carole King, Ringo Starr and James Taylor to teach how to use talents purposefully.  Meets Fridays, January 5-26 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (#10802). The four-week course is $40, plus a supply fee of $5 payable to the instructor.

 

Card Making with Varada

Perfect for a beginner or experienced paper crafter.  Explore your creativity and learn how to create handmade, unique greeting cards using different techniques and holiday themes.  Card Making with Varada meets Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Birthday Cards for Guys, 1/6; Birthday Cards for Girls, 1/13; Valentine Cards, 1/20 or 1/27); or Mondays, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Birthday Cards for Guys, 1/8; Birthday Cards for Girls, 1/15; Valentine Cards, 1/22 or 1/29) at the Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave.  Open to ages 12 through adults. Painting with Yara Stagner

Are you interested in finding your inner painter? Join the fun in this introductory class to oil and acrylic painting techniques. The class is offered on an ongoing basis on Mondays. Each class is $20 and no pre-registration is needed.  New students can join at any time. Call instructor for supply list: 615-485-9839. The class meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. in Franklin.

 

Young Rembrandts

These drawing classes for kids (age 6-13) teach basic skills while having fun. Draw and paint in each class, and take home a finished piece each session.  Meets Mondays, January  8-29 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. Register for this session at www.youngrembrandts.com (#10700, $56).

 

Basic Drawing

Adults can learn to draw in this drop-in class on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. Learn the basics of drawing: perspective, value and texture. Each class will include a drawing exercise such as a face, animal or landscape.  Classes are $15 each and will meet on Tuesdays (January 9-30). No advance registration is required-just pay the class fee at the front desk of the center.

 

Adopt a Dog 101

Learn how to select the right dog for you in this class led by Cherry MacPherson, Animal Behavior College Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Welcome your new canine family member with the important questions answered and resources for where to go when challenges arise. Class offered Tuesday,  January 16 (#10694) or Thursday,  January 18 (#10695), from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For ages 13 and older. $10 per class. Register at www.wcparksandrec.com.

 

Highly Detailed Pen & Ink Drawing on Cork

In this class, learn to draw highly detailed pine and birch trees on cork. Use a medium sized black sharpie pen, a white gel pen for the birch tree, and a fine tipped permanent black pen for the trees in the background. Watercolor Hand Lettering Workshop

Learn the basics of hand lettering with watercolors.  Class uses a watercolor pen brush. Practice in class and take home a finished piece along with a workbook to perfect your skills. Beginner’s Watercolor Workshop

Learn the basics of painting with watercolors in this class for ages 16-adults. Learn the many techniques and effects that can be achieved with watercolor, and take home a finished painting.
