Art Classes for Children

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a variety of ongoing arts and crafts classes for children in January at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. For information about activities at the Longview Recreation Center, call (615)302-0971, ext. 10 or view the Spring Hill monthly newsletter at www.wcparksandrec.com. No membership is required. The Longview Recreation Center is a public facility, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

DEB’Z DOODLEZ
Children of all ages who love to draw will enjoy creating their own work of art in this fun-filled class. Using basic shapes each child will create a drawing, and then use colored pencils, pastels and watercolors to create a masterpiece.  Deb’z Doodlez will meet on Thursdays, January 7-28 from 6-7:30 p.m. The 4-week course is $45. INTRODUCTION TO MANGA DRAWING
Come join the fun in this Manga for Beginners class. Students will learn the basic layout and proportions of drawing Manga Shoujo (girl) and Shounen (boy) characters in the traditional “big-eyed” style of Japanese style cartooning.  Basic drawing techniques and skills will be introduced.  A suggested supply list will be made available upon registration.  Supplies will be available during class for a minimal fee.  No prior drawing experience is required. This class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, January 12 and 14 from 4-5:30 p.m. and is for ages 8 and up. The class fee is $20, and the optional supply fee is $5. MANGA DRAWING-JAPANESE STYLE CARTOONING
In this Intermediate Manga Drawing class students will learn the fundamentals of cartoon drawing.  Body proportions, facial expressions, clothing and costumes will be taught. Action poses and Shounen characters will also be introduced.  A suggested supply list will be made available upon registration.  Supplies will be available during class for a minimal fee.  Previous drawing experience is required (see Introduction to Manga).  This class will meet Tuesdays, January 19 and 26 from 4-5:30 p.m. and is for ages 8 and up. CELEBRATE! ARTS AND CRAFTS BIRTHDAY PARTIES
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer themed birthday parties for children. If you are looking for an affordable, fresh place to celebrate your child’s birthday, look no further! Boys and girls ages 3-10 can celebrate the big day with an arts and crafts party at the Longview Recreation Center. Schedule your child’s birthday party today! Parents can choose from a list of themes or, with an instructor, develop a theme that truly fits their child’s personality and interests. A price of $5 per child includes party room and party hostess/instructor. A fee of $20 per 10 children is for craft supplies. The parent must provide any food (cupcakes/cake), drink and/or paper goods. Optional coordinating party supplies and additional crafts are available for an extra supply fee. Parties are available Monday-Saturday and party length varies based on room availability. The arts and crafts division at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill is always looking for new ideas.
