Arts and Crafts for Adults

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a variety of ongoing arts and crafts classes for teens and adults in January at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. All classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. The Longview Recreation Center is a public facility, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in classes and events held at Longview, even if you don’t have a facility pass!

OPEN GLASS STUDIO-STAINED GLASS PROJECTS
In Open Glass Studio, participants will provide their own pattern or use patterns available from the instructor to construct their own projects. Open Glass Studio meets on Mondays, January 4 and 11 from 6-8:30 p.m. Participants will need to provide their own glass. The use of tools, equipment, copper foil, solder, chemicals and instructor assistance are included in the class fee. Students are required to have prior stained glass experience before attending Open Glass Studio. The fee is $15 for each class. STYLISH DECORATING ON A BUDGET
Step-by-step instructions will be given for making your own window treatments, pillows, table covers and chair cushions. The class also includes tips on decorating, style and furniture arranging. A supply list will be provided upon registration. Some sewing experience required. This class will meet on Tuesdays, January 5-19 from 9-11 a.m., and the class fee is $40. JEWELRY FUNDAMENTALS
Create fashionable jewelry at a fraction of retail prices! This class will teach you to use jewelry tools with beads, wire and jewelry pins to create stylish costume jewelry. The possibilities are endless with the skills you will learn in this fun and exciting class! This class for teens and adults will meet Monday, January 11 from 6-9 p.m. The class fee is $20, and the supply fee is $8. THE MAGIC OF FLOWERS-ORCHIDS
John Ruskin once said “If you can paint just one leaf you can paint the world.” Join instructor, Mary Gwyn, as she walks you through transferring the fine detail of individual flowers to paper and applying watercolor techniques. No prior drawing or painting experience is necessary for this class. Make the flowers you love last forever!

STAMP-A-STACK-HANDMADE GREETINGS
In this fun and fast paced class, students will create 10 projects, 2 each of 5 different designs. Projects include a hot cocoa packet, birthday, thank you, monogram card and winter card. Projects will be different each month but will focus on a common theme. Stamp-a-Stack will meet Thursday, January 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The class fee is $10, and the supply fee is $5. INTRODUCTORY STAINED GLASS
Move beyond just admiring stained glass and learn to make your own in this 6 week course.  Students will learn the basics of copper foiled stained glass construction by scoring and breaking glass into pattern shapes, applying copper foil, soldering and framing to make a beautiful piece of art.  Students will be able to choose from a variety of patterns during the first night of class.  Patterns can be viewed at www.sapphireroad.com/classes.aspx. This class for adults will meet Mondays, January 25-March 8 (skip February 15) from 6-8:30 p.m. The fee for this 6-week class is $90.
