Civil War Clothing Exhibit

Join us for A Commemoration of Forrest’s Murfreesboro Raid as Oaklands Historic House Museum in partnership with Stones River National Battlefield presents aweekend of special 150th Civil War Anniversary events Friday, July 20 thru Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro.
On the morning of July 13, 1862, Col William Duffield and the 9th Michigan Infantry were camped at Oaklands and around Maneys’ Spring when Confederate Col. Nathan Bedford Forrest charged into Murfreesboro and soon overpowered the Federals camped here. By the end of the day, Col. Forrest accepted the Union surrender inside Oaklands Mansion.
To mark this occasion, encampments and living history programs will take place on the grounds of Oaklands Mansion and at the Stones River National Battlefield highlighting Confederate cavalry demonstrations, Union infantry programs and civilian perspectives. A Civil War Era Civilian Clothing Exhibit from PNJW Collections, Alpharetta, Georgia, will be displayed in Maney Hall. This authentic collection will include womens’ dresses and undergarments, bonnets, men’s clothing, accessories, shoes and photographs all depicting the lifestyles typical of mid 19th century Victorian wardrobe.
