ROOTS Academy Quadruples in Growth, Names New Dance Director
Locally Top-Rated Dance Studio Offers Fall Lineup for Dancers of All Levels, Toddlers through Grade 12
BRENTWOOD, TN— Saskia Harmon has been named Dance Program Director of ROOTS Academy, located at 320 Southgate Court In Brentwood, Tennessee.
The announcement follows three years of explosive growth in ROOTS’ dance program, which includes the following highlights:
- Being named Top 3 Dance Studio in Williamson Parent magazine readers poll three years running
- Being named Top 3 Best Youth Dance Instruction in FranklinIs.com’s Sizzle Awards
- Enrollment climbing from 75 to 350 students
- A move to an 11,000 square-foot permanent facility with three studios
- The introduction of attending and winning top awards at regional dance competitions including Nexstar, DanceMaker, Excel in Motion, Applause Talent and Starpower
- The addition of new instructors and classes, including 13 mentors and 47 classes
“ROOTS is growing so fast, and we’re thrilled about where we’re heading,” said CEO Kyle Chowning. “With Saskia stepping in to lead our dance program, this is just the beginning of what will be an exciting new era.”
“It’s an honor to lead this thriving program for ROOTS,” Harmon said. “Dance has always been my passion, and getting to know my students as individuals and help them become their best selves is my mission.”
Harmon has been teaching dance for 16 years. Prior to ROOTS, she was the manager at Pure Barre Brentwood. Her career highlights including being named Best Barre instructor of 2018 by Nashville Fit Magazine and helping coach the Brentwood Academy dancers to National Champions last year as well. She graduated from University of Tennessee, where she was captain of the nationally ranked dance team.
The announcement comes in the middle of a robust summer dance camp schedule (with double the attendance over 2017) and on the heels of the release of the fall 2018 dance schedule. With offerings for a wide range of age groups (toddler through K-12), and opportunities for both recreational and competitive dancers, fall classes are open for registration now, and will begin after Labor Day. About Kyle and Kristy Chowning: Kyle and his wife Kristy Chowning owns and operate ROOTS Academy, where they’ve quadrupled student enrollment from 165 to 650 students since purchasing the business in 2012. Kyle is also the owner of Full Cycle Marketing, an inbound digital marketing agency in Franklin, TN. Kyle and Kristy have been married for 19 years and have three children who participate in the music and dance lessons and classes ROOTS offers.
About Saskia Harmon: Saskia is the Dance Program Director at ROOTS Dance Academy. With 16 years of teaching experience, from kids to adults of all ages, Saskia has helped coach an award-winning high school team and was named Best Barre instructor of 2018. Originally from DeLand, Florida, Saskia is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she was a member and captain of the nationally ranked University of Tennessee Dance Team from 2002-2006.
