Activities abound for 55+ residents

 

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites area seniors (55+) to participate in upcoming activities at six locations, including a new senior sports activity in Nolensville, and a new Lunch Bunch group in Spring Hill at the Longview Recreation Center and in Franklin at the Williamson County Enrichment Center.

 

Senior Lunch Bunch-Longview

Let’s do lunch somewhere new! Jump on the bus for a fun lunch outing on the first Friday of each month. We will leave from the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1 for a road trip to Betty’s Parkway Restaurant in Columbia, where you can enjoy a burger, loaded potato skins and more! Lunch is Dutch treat, and transportation is $3 each. Space is limited to 12, so register in advance (#10258) before August 30 at www.wcparksandrec.com.    

 

Senior Sports in Nolensville

Our staff is bringing senior sports to Nolensville on September 8 with open play for seniors, age 55 or older.  Try badminton, cornhole, basketball and other games from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Drop-in; no reservations required. Come to play and learn something new in a fun setting!

 

 

Potluck and Bingo

Monthly senior potlucks are a fun way to make new friends in the community. Please bring along a side dish or dessert to share, and we will provide the meat and drinks.  After lunch, enjoy a game of bingo with prizes!  Upcoming potlucks are: Wednesday, September 6 at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. (#10036); Tuesday, September 12 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. (#10249); and Wednesday, September 20 at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. (#10270). Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and lunch begins at noon. The potlucks are free, but registration is required at www.wcparksandrec.com.

 

Senior Lunch Bunch – Enrichment Center

Let’s do lunch! Jump on the bus for a fun lunch outing once a month. We will leave from the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21 for short trip to Puckett’s Grocery in Franklin, where you can enjoy good down home cooking.  Lunch is Dutch treat, and transportation is $3 each. Space is limited to 12, so register in advance (#10319) starting August 17 at www.wcparksandrec.com.   

 

Senior Games at Enrichment Center-Franklin

The new Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. in Franklin has a number of ongoing games and activities in the Senior Lounge. All seniors (55+) are welcome to drop in to enjoy the lounge or any of the games. The senior lounge is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon. General admission is $1 or free with a department pass.  Game schedule: Mondays, dominoes at 10:00 a.m.; Tuesdays, Scrabble every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and Bunko every first Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Euchre every second Tuesday; Wednesdays, Rummikub at 9:00 a.m. and Pennies from Heaven at 10:00 a.m.; Thursdays, Bridge at 9:00 a.m., dominoes at 10:00 a.m.; Friday, Pennies from Heaven at 9:00 a.m. A NEW Mahjong group meets on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.  

 

Senior Chorus

If you enjoy singing and would like to be part of a senior chorus group please contact Lindsey Wood.  We are hoping to get a chorus group started by the Fall of 2017.  We are looking for a potential instructor or leader as well as members.  Please contact Lindsey Wood at (615) 786-0186 x2519 or lindseyw@williamson-tn.org if you are interested.

 

Senior Open Art Studio

Express yourself during this ongoing senior open art studio time. Bring your own art supplies and projects every Monday from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. Instructor Pam Irvin will be on hand to teach new techniques and help you hone in on your artistic skills. No registration is required for this drop-in class. The class fee is $2 for Enrichment Center pass holders and $4 for others. Open to the public, 55+.  

 

 

Dulcimer Dandies

Whether you are a novice or experienced dulcimer player, you will enjoy practicing and playing with this group of seniors (55+).  Dulcimer Dandies meet every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. (Moves to Wednesdays in September.) The group performs together at local events throughout the year. No registration or fee. Just drop in and join the fun.

 

Bridge Group-Spring Hill

Join the Monday bridge group for seniors at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. Play Bridge every Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This is a free activity held in the game room. Call Rebecca Fulcher at (615) 302-0971, ext. 2218 to sign up.

 

Senior Games-Nolensville

Join the fun with other seniors every Thursday from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd.  Play cards or games, knit or just chat in the senior activities room. No registration is needed. This is a free activity. Just drop in and meet other area seniors!

 

Pickleball

If you are looking for a new way to be more active, try Pickleball, a relatively new game popular with many seniors. Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping pong, and it’s lots of fun. No registration is required, just facility admission at the door.  Open Pickleball (indoor) for beginners is offered at the Longview Recreation Center, Franklin Recreation Complex and the recreation centers in Fairview and Nolensville. Senior Bowling Group

The Franklin Family Entertainment Center hosts a discounted bowling time for seniors on Mondays and Fridays starting at 9:00 a.m.  No experience is necessary and there are no set teams or leagues.  Games are $1.50 each and most people bowl up to 3 games.  This is a great way to bowl for fun and meet new friends.  For more information you can contact Lindsey Wood at (615) 786-0186 x2519 or lindseyw@williamson-tn.org

 

Senior Group Fitness & Aqua Fitness

A number of exercise programs for seniors are offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation at the recreation centers in Franklin, Brentwood, Nolensville, Spring Hill and Fairview, as well as at the Williamson County Enrichment  Center, 110 Everbright Ave. in Franklin. Classes vary at each location, and may include Aerobic Fit, yoga (beginner, strength and advanced), SilverSneakers® Classic, circuit training, Zumba Gold, indoor cycling, water aerobics and more. Sports for Seniors at Academy Park Gym

The Academy Park Gym, located at 120 Everbright Ave. offers a free walking club for seniors (55+), Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Other weekly activities include indoor games like shuffleboard, badminton and table tennis.  The admission fee for gym use is $1 for seniors, or free with any WCPR pass. All activities are open to the public.
