THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS

Williamson County Parks and Rec Offers Year-Round Activities

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement.  Recreation Specialists conduct monthly ongoing programs at three locations: the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. All programs are open to the public.

 

Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville Activities

Friendsday Wednesday

This program will focus on doing fun activities with our friends each month. This month we will be making Spring crafts on March 20 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Cost is $5. Super Saturday Respite

Participants can enjoy a day of recreation therapy activities, games, and crafts at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. on Saturday, March 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Send a change of clothes, lunch, snack, and drink. Personal care is provided. For new participants: An assessment must be completed by a parent/legal guardian before attending the respite program. For 6-23 years of age. Nolensville Activity Club (NAC)

Each month has a different theme or project. We will have fun creating some St. Patrick’s Day accessories for friends and family on March 11, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. The cost for this program is $5 per young adult. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Parent’s Night Out

We invite parents to take advantage of our monthly Parents’ Night Out program at Nolensville. This program is held on a Friday, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m., and is catered to child(ren) with special needs. Siblings are welcome to register as well so that you can enjoy a night off. Our certified Rec Therapist will supervise and coordinate all of the fun activities for the duration of the evening. Dinner, drinks and a dessert will be provided but feel free to send food if your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies For ages 6-17. Enrollment is limited. Fit Fun Nite

This activity is designed for the adolescent age group and older, with special needs. One Tuesday a month at the at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd., we will do a variety of physical activities to get our heart rates up and have some fun. A snack and drink will be provided but feel free to send food if your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies. For ages 10 and older, no age maximum. Enrollment is limited and online registration is required. The cost of this program is $6.00 per child. Register by March 27 for the next activity date of March 28. Make a bird feeder at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. during Miscellaneous Mondays, March 4-25 (skip 3/18) from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. For teens and older. Fitness Fun

Let’s get fit using light weights, resistance bands and stability balls. End the session with a walk. Fitness Fun meets at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Wednesdays, March 6-27 (skip 3/20) from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. For teens and older. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Potluck and Bingo

Therapeutic Recreation participants are invited to enjoy free potluck and bingo on Thursday, March 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, Franklin. Participants (teens and older) should bring a dish to share. Meat and drinks will be provided. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Pre-registration is required. Culinary Creations

This Therapeutic Recreation cooking class is offered at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. For ages 18 and older.  Learn to cook a variety of tasty and easy foods. Meets Wednesday, March 27 (enchiladas and quesadillas) from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Cost is $8. Throwback Thursday

Join us for a blast from the past each month where we enjoy a variety of “throwback” activities. On March 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd., wear your green and gold for our St. Patty’s themed party. A chicken tender dinner will be served. This program is for adults with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Reservations required by March 19. Cost is $7. Recreation Night

Join us on Thursday, March 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Shogun, 1638 Westgate Circle, Brentwood. Please choose from Chicken, Steak or Shrimp when registering. We will meet at the restaurant and participants will also be picked up from Shogun. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Cost is $32. Games Galore

Join us for an evening of large group games on Thursday, March 14, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. We will be playing Minute to Win It games. Participants will enjoy trying to complete tasks in a minute. We will serve a dinner of Chicken tenders, Salad, drinks and dessert. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Cost is $8. Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill Activities

Potluck and Bingo

Offsite Activities

Friday Fun Day

On Friday, March 15, we will celebrate St. Patty’s Day with an Irish lunch at McCreary’s in downtown Franklin, TN. If weather permits, we will walk around some of the shop on Main Street afterward. We will meet at 11:00 a.m. This program is for adults with disabilities. A caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support. Bowling

On Tuesday, March 5 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., meet us at Franklin Family Entertainment Center, 1200 Lakeview Drive, Franklin for a fun afternoon of bowling. Due to staffing, one to one assistance is not available for this activity. Please arrive by 3:00 p.m. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. No registration required. Cost is $3. Fee to be paid to Franklin Family Entertainment Center includes bowling ball and shoes.
